Calgary citizens make their mark with new site

Xpan is proud to take part in sponsoring a local philanthropic initiative helping Calgarians make their mark to celebrate National Philanthropy Day. In partnership with Tag advertising, Xpan built and hosts the Make your Mark web site.
What is philanthropy? Philanthropy is defined in different ways. The origin of the word philanthropy is Greek and means love for mankind. Today, philanthropy includes the concept of voluntary giving by an individual or group to promote the common good. Philanthropy also commonly refers to grants of money given by foundations to nonprofit organizations.
10 ways to make your mark
- Gather clothing from your neighbours and donate it to a local shelter.
- Donate securities to your favourite charity.
- Teach a senior friend how to use the computer and Internet
- Donate to your childrens' school
- Read books or the newspaper for a visually impaired person
- Send a letter to a veteran or an overseas soldier
- Start a $500 scholarship or bursary for youth in-need
- Bring, prepare and serve a meal at an emergency shelter
- Donate land to a not-for-profit
